Bells have fascinated artists down the ages, from Tarkovsky to Martin Creed, Gavin Bryars and Brian Eno. For this commission, Skempton will work with the grain of the algorhythmic form of composition of method ringing, to ensure that the piece can be performed at as many churches as possible across the UK and internationally.
We anticipate the first performances being at the turn of the New Year 2012, with other performances up and down the country during the Olympic year.
